Maya Paranjapye --- The Only Founder Member Of BUTIC

Maya is the pioneer in the beauty industry, a renowned academician, she was at the forefront pioneering beauty and hair way back in 1966, when salons were in the nascent stage. But armed with skills and sheer determination she successfully managed to create a niche for herself and is considered a leader in the beauty world.

Maya worked for a year in the school of Chemistry of the University of Geneva (Switzerland) as Laboratory Assistant in Department of Biological and Special Organic Chemistry. During this period she had the opportunity to learn all aspects of modern Bio-Chemistry and Biochemical Analysis. This prompted Maya Paranjapye to undertake personal training in Beauty Culture at Geneva (Switzerland).

There was no looking back for Maya, she continued her journey in the beauty business, did further studies in 'Beauty Therapy' diploma from 'International School of Natural Beauty therapy' London, U.K. in 1972. After her return from London she started teaching complete Diploma Course in 'Beauty Therapy' as per British Association Curriculum and thus Butic Institute was formed

  • Mrs. Maya was working for a year in the school of Chemistry of the University of Geneva (Switzerland) as Laboratory Assistant in Department of Biological and Special Organic Chemistry. During this period she had an Opportunity to learn aspect of modern Bio-Chemistry and Biochemical Analysis.


  • Mrs. Maya Paranjapye has taken personal training in Beauty Culture at Geneva (Switzerland)
  • 1966   : Joined 'Ovation International' an International Cosmetic Company in Mumbai in as Beauty Consultant.
  • She was selected for sponsorship by Ovation International for full time Beauty Therapy course to be given by a graduate of Innoxa School of London. The course was for six months.
  • 1972   : She also completed 'Beauty Therapy' diploma from 'International School of Natural Beauty therapy' London, U.K. Mrs. Marionne Ayers was the Principal.

  • 1972   : She obtained Diploma in 'Hair Dressing from' Classical School of Hair Dressing London.
  • 1977   : Was accepted as Overseas Member of 'British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology
  • She was second Indian to be accepted as a member of the Association.
  • 1980   : She completed Cosmetology Diploma from 'Royal College of Beauty Phoenix, Arizona. U.S.A.
  • 1980   : Attended a workshop course for Aestheticians from the famous 'Christine Valamy School' at 5th Avenue, New York in October.
  • 1980   : Attended Skin Care Association of America. at New York was accepted as a member of "Aestheticians" 'International of America, Dallas. U.S.A.
  • 1983   : Completed Masterclass in Hairdressing by Morris School of Hairdressing London.
  • 1990   : She was trained International School of Natural therapy, in Aromatherapy Reflexology and Lymph drainage at Kent, by Francis Wragg.
  • 1995   : Pass CIDESCO International diploma exam  successfully in Bretland School – Tan bridge Wells (England) ,in 1995 – Principal Joan Thorneycroft
  • Completed Aromatherapy (Curriculum of CIDESCO) Post Graduate CIDESCO Aromatherapy.
  • Passed Public Speaking advance course given by 'Nazareth Academy'.
  • 2006   : Completed Hot stone therapy diploma from Pheyex (USA)
  • 2007   : Trained in Balinese Massage – at Bali Indonesia
  • 2008   : Completed SPA development & SPA management diplomas at ‘Shiva Some’

  • 2014   : Became member of Government Council of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)


  • Mrs. Maya started her own Beauty Parlour at Khar. Mumbai in the name of Butic Beauty Parlour at Khar, in 1968, which is completing 44 years in 2012 on Dassera.
  • A second branch of the Parlour was started in Poona in 1976.
  • The third branch started in Mumbai at Shivaji Park on Cadell Road in 1980.
  • In all Parlours, besides regular treatment like Facial, Make-up, Manicure/ Pedicure. Waxing and Treading, Various Paramedical treatments like Electrolysis, Acne Treatment, Skin (Marks) peeling, Seaweed Facial ­Lonophoresis and Aromatherapy, M.LD. Deincrustation, Special treatment for Acne, are carried out for last 30 years
  • Butic Beauty Parlour also specialized in Micro Current rejuvenating Treatment and Skin Polishing Treatment. Gets many clients referred by hospitals and eminent Skin Specialists.  Recently parlour has micro proration treatments


  • Since 1968, Mrs. Maya started teaching "Beauty Culture" a short duration course for the students. It was the first training center in Mumbai, which was giving complete scientific Beauty training.
  • After her return from London she started teaching complete Diploma Course in 'Beauty Therapy' as per British Association Curriculum. The faculty includes a number of eminent medical practitioners and experts in the field of Anatomy and Physiology, Physiotherapy Hygiene, Food and Nutrition, Modelling, Theatrical and Cinema Make-up, Slimming Specialist, Yoga etc.
  • After her return from U.S.A. an advanced Aestheticians training which covered all paramedical treatments for skin and hair was included and Hair Dressing was also introduced as per the curriculum of American Cosmetology course.
  • In September 1984. the Institute has shifted to larger premises at 1, Rupdarshini, Lt. Dilip Gupte Marg, Mahim, Mumbai 400 016 where Audio Visual course, practice on most modern Equipment and additional courses like film and TV make-up and Cosmetology are available.
  • Butic Institute was the only Institute in India accepted By BABTAC (U.K.) in 1983 and since then the Institute has conducted CIBTAC exams for last 4 years.
  • Institute is accepted as CIDESCO school and started giving CIDESCO examination from 1994. This is the oldest school in India accepted by CIDESCO.
  • Institutes hair section is associated with International Hair Colour Company Wella from 2004.
  • Institute and Poona college has started Maharashtra State Board Technical Education (MSBTE) Post Graduated Beauty Culture & Hair Dressing diploma from 2001.  This is the only institute which offers Government Technical Boards’ Beauty and Hair Diploma.
  • Butic Institute has shifted in New premises at New Udyog Mandir – 2, 7C Mogal Lane, Mahim, Mumbai 400016.
  • Butic started its Men training section from 2003 & first batch appeared for CIDESCO 2006 with 100% success result.
  • From 2004 Institute is giving Post graduated CIDESCO diploma exam in SPA Therapy & Aroma Therapy.

Full Institute was started in Poona in 1982. All Mumbai diploma's are conducted there.

  • The Institute also offers semi-professional courses for working and college students and Body Therapy and General Aesthetic for professional on Sunday.
  • Besides teaching, Maya has been chairman of the Board of Studies of the Technical Education Board of the Government of Maharashtra.
  • Has designed and finished syllabus of this subject for 'Deaf and Dumb' children for their S.S.C. exams.

  • From the day Maya started her Beauty parlour at Khar (45 Years ago) she was always aware of the lack of proper Parlour and Skin and Hair ­Care cosmetics in India, which parlours needed especially for Indian type of tropical weather and skin types. So she started manufacturing Cosmetics from 1976, at Poona a major city 160 km. away from Mumbai.
  • From the beginning several indigenous herbal ingredients, some of which have medical importance in Ayurveda, have been used. After considerable research' efforts the company has now developed a total range of Herbal, Skin care Products, besides her Clients, Students and Parlour. The products are now distributed all over India and Exported aboard.
  • Special feature of her company is that Manufacturing Administration and Marketing is all done predominantly (Over 80%) by ladies under her personal supervision.


  • Over 10 years of Research and practice in Herbal Ayurvedic ingredients this lab was started in 1987. It now has 8 Ayurvedic products – Kesari, Komal, Nital, Twakalpa for skin care and Condair and Daneem for hair care. All excellent results and no side effects. Maya has given complete clinical trials for these products and has worked as product advisor.

Amalgamation of Ayurvedic Laboratories and Cosmetics took place in 2004 to from new company Butic Cosmetics (I) Pvt. Ltd. of which Mrs. Maya Paranjapye as CEO.

  • She has spoken on All India Radio in Hindi/Marathi and also given Several T.V. Demonstrations on the Mumbai Station , 'Doordarshan' and National Network.
  • When she was studying cosmetology in Arizona (U.S.A.) a complete Article on her various activities was published in phoenix newspaper.
  • All the books available on this subject are in English which makes in difficult for ladies to professionally learn the subject although they have talent, they can understand only the Regional languages. To overcome this, she has written a book in Marathi Called 'Soundarya. Sadhana' which gives sufficient insight into all aspects of beauty culture, Beauty Therapy and Hair Dressing. This book was published by leading publisher in November, 1982.
  • Maya is founder Member of Association of Beauty therapy and Cosmetology (India) The only government registered Beautician /Hairdressing Association – 1986.
  • Association gave 1st CIDESCO exam. In 1991, held for the first in India by this World wide Beauty Organisation. Maya was the person instrumental in organising the exam. Ever since the Association is giving Post graduate examinations every year for the last 4 years and with this personal efforts India has been accepted as section by CIDESCO in 1994 at Basal Congress.
